Hello, April!

I always have a dream that someday I can live in a country where berries are cheap. So that I can always have them on my table every morning as one of my breakfast. I love berries, from the dark one until the bright one. From blackberry until kiwi berry. Another dream I have is having breakfast with croissants, and berries, plus coffee and orange juice at a small cafe, in a summer. In the city of light. While I’m dreaming for it (I know, at least for now), I made my breakfast on Monday with some mini croissants, pain au chocolats, and some colors on my table.

It wasn’t only berries I had this week. When I saw kale in the market I took it home. I didn’t even realise that banana plus yogurt drink plus kale plus bok coy plus kiwi was incredible. A must-try green smoothie that can brighten up your morning guys!.

I had fun with some photos on this post when I did food collage with kiwis, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and kale before I enjoyed them. Though capturing them in cloudy days (almost every day here is clouuuudy) left me with some challenges. My fav are the green color scheme from kale, bok coy and kiwi shot.

I had two times half day on Monday and Tuesday because of Presidential election here. It made me (well, :P) happy cause so I had time cooking my simply lunch at home on weekday. Medium stir-fried bok coy (sadly I didn’t have O oil in the kitchen) with oyster sauce, scrambled egg with kale (trust me, adding kale inside is yum!), and simply fried chicken breast. It was still cloudy during the day yet I was lucky enough the sun was coming out for hours. Late in the afternoon I made some toast bread with some easy-funky toppings. Cheese, nutella & cheese, plus homemade blueberry sauce.

I think the weather makes me unwell lately. I’m having cold and flu since last week (oh yesterday my migraine was so so terrible). Having lemon is a must in my fridge, and brewing fresh ginger, lemon and raw honey is the best natural way to against this terrible flu.

Hello.April11

Happy Monday

Like always, I’ll spoil myself with proper food after I work hard. If last week, from Monday to Saturday I had a full deadlines plus obstacles plus brain & physical stresses on my plate when I had to work four days non-stop. Three events on the same day and two overnight in the venue, I could breathe easy right now.

Working for Polo tournament on Thursday and Friday when I had to manage many heavy (yes, very heavy) props for the event, from up “up” where there was no path just sands everywhere. Plus complains and complains from the client (in the end, we were fine), no breakfast but this, all was at a huge desert beach where it was windy in the night and gallons of water would be needed in the noon. On Saturday, though I had two small events I had to check, I didn’t spend much time cause later on, I could visit The Indonesian Embassy (like I was dreamt that I could hanging around on Saturday noon).

We did celebrate The Indonesian community that is seven years old this year. Even though I rarely visit the Embassy rather than my other colleagues, I did enjoy that day. First, because I could see another Indonesians that work as expatriates here, then second (well, it wasn’t only me, please) was the time when we could enjoy many kinds of Indonesian food just like this (oh gosh, I finally ate Tempeh after more than three and half years I’ve been living here, in Africa). Perfect ending I had on Saturday was the fact that I had time to visit French store where I could get so many sexy fruits, veggies, and another French products, and… an evening rain like this when I was on my way home by 7 pm-ish (I always enjoy a moment when rain just stopped in the evening and brings heavenly breeze).

I spent a whole yesterday in the house. I was just like a cat when I could laze and did nothing. Watching movies by laying on my bed with cheap popcorn, and had chance taking nap for hours and bathed in the afternoon.

Is there anything better than you woke up on Monday and resumed work by 4 pm?, and you had greens on your table this morning?. If only I could start every Monday with greens like this, just like this.

And you could sit down in your dining room this afternoon with crispy fried mushroom, stir-fried spinach, simply chicken soup and dried fish plus lemon ice tea, all on your table.

Breakfast Scenes Last Week

Jumping to this day from my last post is such a very, very bad thing. But I couldn’t blame myself ignoring this blog for a long due to my weeks was so so terribly hectic (for almost three weeks?damn!). Is there any other word instead of hectic if you had to work from Monday to Sunday, two weeks?. And I’ll have another crazy days this week. So, I better post this before I won’t have time just to share simply breakfast scenes like these (first time I tasted kiwi berries last week :)).

And I hope I can do my best for all my projects this week. I believe I can do it.

Slowly Sunday

I always try to enjoy my off day, I mean, the real off day when I can wake up late and laze a whole day. When I knew that this Sunday I had no event outside, I decided to stay at home doing nothing. Woke up by 10 am after I spent Saturday night watching Jupiter Ascending (sadly, I missed Fifty Shades of Grey!), and for sure, enjoying early lunch with these on my table (I just realised that I didn’t bring some fruits yesterday, uh).

Since I lost my Fossil (plus $100 plus my memory card inside, careless!), I hinge on my iPhone 6 more and more to take picture than on my mirrorless (I haven’t bought new memory card but I have for another Fossil, oops).

Here are some scenes I had last week, from ‘breakfast for the champion’, an afternoon with apple crumble and custard plus tea (best thing was on Monday noon when I had a half day), until juice party in the office (I snapped my ‘strawberry-blackberry-mango’ juice when my office was quite). All iPhone only.

Sunday is almost over here, lemme laze and laze in my chill room cause tomorrow, my plate is full again with some deadlines. Oh, I wanna share some songs that stick in my head recently, they are just beyond brilliant!

Full & Thankful

Even I did these iPhone shots in hurry (unfortunately, most of the images are blurred, sigh!), I was pleased with the fact that I had full breakfast this morning. I cooked noodles with chicken, mushroom and shrimps in light soup, and for sure, chinese cabbage. Fruit salad with fresh lemon juice and raw honey anyone? :)

Reminiscing Culinary Delights

I still have some food pictures when I was in Indonesia for this blog. Looking at them reminds me how delicious they were and of course, I enjoyed them so much cause I was in vacation (there is nothing like that, when all you need is just follow your desire everyday on what you want to eat). I rarely snap street food for this blog but here, you’ll find some iPhone pictures with little stories on them :).

StreetFood-Batagor

1/ Batagor was among of ‘must-eat’ list and I had a chance to enjoy Batagor with Ruli and Ayos near their house. The best thing that day wasn’t only the Batagor itself but the fact that the place was near airport, where you’ll have a rice field in front of you and…airplanes flying very close. Sumedang fried tofu was another yummy snack that day when I and Ruli tried to catch sunset after we had Batagor.

FancyFoods

2/ There was an afternoon when I wanted a treat of Crème brûlée while my sister and my nephew just had snacks. Another day, dinner with Andhi and Fahmi (it was such a great time!) and what I had on my table was a bowl of spicy ramen.

StreetFood-Bakso&Fried Duck

3/ Another street food I ate was with Andhi when we had fried duck for our lunch, and it was so so good. Sometimes it’s okay to stop by at one street food corner and guessing how the food will taste. It was I and Sohib’s late noon snack that day when I wanted to eat Batagor and found Bakso in the end.

StreetFood-Inexpensive Food in Bali

4/ I throw back to Bali when I had to manage myself to enjoy some Javanese food for breakfast and lunch. It wasn’t bad at all to try some inexpensive food, well, especially when you have to manage your wallet but you’ll have brown rice on your plate :).

Breakfast

5/ I think granola with yogurt and passion fruit at Zucchini, Seminyak, was a perfect breakfast to start the day. Another breakfast scene I had while I was in Bali.

StreetFood-Surabi

6/ When I was in Bali, I took a day off to Ubud with Sohib and Andhi in the morning (I do not want to remember about how we drove our motorcycle that day! super terrible). By evening when I and Sohib went back to Seminyak, we stopped by at Denpasar for Surabi. Yes! Melted cheddar cheese with chocolate on top? I’m dreaming of it right now.

Anomali Coffee Seminyak

7/ Warm croissant and a cup of cappuccino was so so good to start the day. Morning scene at Anomali Coffee, Seminyak.

Warung Itali 2

Warung Itali 1

8/ Had seafood spaghetti at Warung Itali, Seminyak was awesome. Well, creamy ravioli was another mouth-watering treat. Enough said :)

Kudeta&Ubud

9/ One of well-known food in Ubud, Ayam Kedewatan for lunch. And I was enjoyed my short time at Ku De Ta with slices of warm pizza.

StreetFood-Bali&SurabayaJPG

10/ Well, I have to say that I’m a big fan of well-cooked tuna fish on street food.

SushiTe

SushiTe211/ Salmon in the afternoon? I could ask more (!!) at Sushi Te. And, matcha ice cream such a perfect ending.

Food Collage via iPhone

I think one of the best thing from Instagram is how the account looks. I always love how beautiful pictures are nicely arranged in square, particularly gorg account from Instagram stars like Alice Gao (I know it isn’t a secret that I’m her big fan of Alice’s rad works!), Pei Ketron (another brilliant one!), or Aiala Hernando. Not only every time I see through my iPhone, on the website, those squares tell so many stories about them. Especially for Alice Gao, every time she uploads food photos, I’ll stop for seconds to observe the taste of food (by air, obviously), the composition, the lighting and the angle.

Taking food photos has become my biggest indulgence right now. Every time I cook or having a brunch in a cafe, I always try to take photos of it (yes, taking photos first then I’ll eat them). Food photography via iPhone or mirrorless of mine are taken mostly from above. I can’t lie it is the best angle. My friend told me that the top angle doesn’t need photography technic but composition. I don’t really agree, I mean, even composition play is more needed, there is technic on how to capture the food.

Because I always depend on natural light, breakfast is the best time to snap my food. Sometimes I’ll have a plan ‘plan’ to snap but sometimes it’s an impromptu. You might have seen most of my breakfasts below on my account yet I personally couldn’t resist to post them on this blog. All are taken with my iPhone5 weeks ago (even, sometime a year ago).

I can’t lie that seeing my breekies above is such a simply joy for me :). Hope you guys do not mind for some of recent breakfast scenes taken last week and this week. My fav time was the one with croissants and a bowl of rainbow :).

Heavenly Sunday Lunch

When I was in elementary school, I loved to see an illustration showing breakfast/lunch/dinner scene inside my textbook. Where a Dad spending time by reading newspaper, his son and daughter playing their toys on the floor while their Mom preparing food for them. It is such a beautiful scene in real life, huh?. Even right now, I love to see that kind of picture which makes me think about a quality time at home.

I’m lucky enough since I landed here six days ago, I had a normal working time when I always go by 8am and back on 6pm. That chance makes me feel like “I’m a normal man live in a normal life” (it is true, when I had a lot of works and events, I have to work in the office on daily working time and overnight in the venue! :|). Since six days ago I’ve tried to spend mostly of my time in my flat. Cleaned up my room (after a month :|), cooking for sure, and back to blogging.

Yesterday I spent my Sunday totally in my flat. Woke up by 6am and started cleaning a whole kitchen from 6.30 until 9.30, then I cooked for lunch. I had an idea a day before to enjoy ‘Pecel Paste’ that I brought from Indonesia. Pecel such a compulsory food/spice I always bring every year when I’m back from my home country. My mom always make it for her last child :P cause she knows I love Pecel so much. There was the same story behind Pecel paste like last year when I was half-hearted to put it in my suitcase because of the weight (This post was written in Bahasa last year about Pecel, what? last year? time flies!).

I wasn’t listened to my last sister when she told me to bring Pecel and also, Serundeng, even just a half kg. If you always travel abroad you’ll know what is my reason behind it. In the end I brought Serundeng even yes, half kg only (now, I want more! :(). I’m not trying to let myself feel “Oh, I’m homesick, I’m missing Indonesian food” yet I realised, yesterday noon I thanked God for that Serundeng cause it made my lunch was so superb. I cooked chicken in pepper sauce and beef in sweet onion sauce to be eaten with Pecel and Serundeng. Even veggies in this Pecel wasn’t authentic enough but I did want to say it was a super heavenly lunch I had. Oh, I want to hug my sister cause she brought me ‘Kering Tempe’ (crispy Tempeh in spicy caramel) as well :). She and my Mom are brilliant in cooking and never fail in taste. I think it isn’t because they really can cook well (only), the love behind it speaks also :).

What I love from that is a chance to tweak Pecel sauce to be added to dissimilar ingredients and it will change into a different dish :). I think I just had an idea to enjoy with.

Reminiscence of Food

Nutella Mousse Pudding

Sparkles always come to my eyes every time I see beautiful cakes, pastries and chocolates. Half of me always feel the rejoice, the other half worry about the ingredients. Worry about how they cook them, about how much fat inside all those mouth-watering guilty pleasure. But I believe one thing about food, enjoy good food when you alive, wisely. There is time I will eat fresh salad with lemon and O oil only and there is a time I will enjoy a handful of fatty ice cream. I’m still learning how I enjoy my food wisely, as long as I know how to manage myself among fatty-sweet-crispy-food, healthy-fresh-food, I’m fine with it.

A DIY food I want to share here is one of my fav homemade snack ; Nutella Mousse Pudding. You can even guess easily what are ingredients to make it by seeing the first picture below. This snack contains the incredible dangerously chocolate paste but it doesn’t worry me to enjoy it. Why? Because it homemade, simple :). I’ll be the one who control how much sugar and fat in it right? :). Oh, there are two things I love from this snack ; very easy to make and tasteful. For this post I just what to share some pictures that I kept inside my hard drive for almost four months. I’ll share how to cook it as soon as my-sluggish-part-of-me is gone, thou (and I’m having cold :(…..).
